March 2026 Update

Sometimes county councillors forget to let residents know what on earth they do all day. I have to say I am guilty of that so here is a snapshot.

A typical day is often varied and first thing I went to Henllan Amgoed to hunt a roadside well and report the location to the County Council to avoid vehicles falling into it.

Mid morning there was an online briefing session about proposed upgrades on the A48 trunk road between Pensarn and Crosshands mindful of the potential risks at the Nantycaws recycle centre junction. There will be a full public consultation in due course.

Note that there is an ECO village at the Nantycaws site where all sorts of items are refurbished and are available for sale. Bicycles, TVs, Computers, Paint, Garden Equipment, Household Goods and all sorts.

Please place your items that are in good condition in the ETO container at the Whitland HWRC where they can be sent on to Nantycaws to be checked and repaired ready for sale at a minimal cost or given away.

Paint that is used for sheds and pergolas cannot be recycled so there are leftover tins FOC nearby.  Some bicycles have been thrown aways because they have a puncture. Children grow so quickly it is worth considering these bikes.

In the afternoon there was an online meeting to plan the imminent visit to Whitland of the Carmarthenshire Flood Team on the 18th March 2026. Details to follow.

The evening meeting was at the Community Council of Henllanfallteg which is open to the public and held at the Millenium Hall.

In between the above it is reading the agenda for the next day Place Sustainability and Climate Change Scrutiny Committee which is webcast as are all the main meetings at Carmarthenshire County Council. On the agenda is an extensive report on air quality and an update on planning enforcement along with the quarterly budget report. LINK

The afternoons meeting is the Tackling Poverty Advisory Group that considers localized projects to assist building resilience to the communities. One ongoing project is the Multibank initiated in the Swansea area. There is gigantic warehouse where unsold items from national companies are gathered for redistribution via local networks. Amazon and Boots are just two of the companies taking part. I understand it is cheaper for them to do this than pay for disposal. CCC is looking into ways to make it work locally. The other main agenda item is an analysis of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation. A number of factors are measured to build a picture of what support is needed by location. For example, Whitland Ward in the rural parts is higher on the national list of deprivation for access to services as there is no public transport.

Resident/Business/Council over the past few days

New road signs for Cwmfelin Boeth,  Follow up extra grit bin, The missing well, Follow up on displaced residents at St Davids avenue, Potholes - various locations, Follow up on speed issue at Trevaughan, St John street bin query, Small business units, Resurface / repair entrance to recycle centre and livestock mart. The County Council are planning banners to enhance rural town centres.
