Chaired the recent ten towns meeting with county council officers , town councillors the chamber of trade chairman and secretary. Updates were given by the Whitland Town Council on their purchase of the studio in Cross street; County council officers related a list of buildings to be painted in Whitland ; A potential sculptural project is possible made from recycled materials. Where should this be located ?? Attendees also viewed the draft design for town centre car parking on the old sidings. The town centre is to have a deep clean in the Autumn via the county council dates TBC. There is a mural to be painted on the Station House featuring a steam train or similar displaying the Cardi Bach heritage. Thanks to Mike and Sue for enabling this cheerful feature which will be visible from the passing trains.

Met with residents of North road last week to hear the concerns about the new drop off development at Dyffryn Taf. I was able to assure them that double yellow lines are not planned on the East side of the road opposite the works. I am informed the works are to assist pupil safety and are the result of a risk assessment. I will be meeting the Headteacher to discuss plans for teacher and pupil parking. Resident permits are not a realistic possibility in small towns as enforcement is limited.

Stood in as a community councillor at Henllanfallteg to enable the meeting to be quorate and reappoint new councillors. This was the result of an official legal order provided by the county council.

Continue to attend meetings with representatives and the county councillors from the wards affected by the A40 Llandewi by pass construction.  We had an on site tour of the proposed local (by pass) route to be used during the brief closure of the route to Llanfallteg from the A40. This enables the bridge section to be completed and traffic to and from Llanfallteg and beyond to have continuous access throughout.

Earlier in 2024 attended an online tribunal to give support to residents of Westover Park against unauthorised changes to site fees and will continue to support them during meetings at Carmarthenshire Council.

Work on the public footpath access to Maes Abaty is to be facilitated by Griffiths contractors in September. This will improve the muddy situation underfoot in wet weather. I am also working with the county council to effect a change in policy so the route is classified as a pavement rather than footpath and upgraded.

Spoke at planning committee in support of a young couples new home application at the ward boundary.

Assisting volunteers to apply for grant assistance to help develop the Whitland Abbey Heritage Event. The Abbey ruins are a significant historical feature of Whitland and straddle the current electoral wards of Whitland and Llanboidy with the Abbey byway running through the site. Research is being undertaken that is exploring the significant connection between Whitland Abbey and Europe and specialist drone surveys are to be undertaken in early September. The Abbey event will be held on 20th and 21st September with a camp-over and tales of murdered monks round the campfire. During the day there are heritage talks and displays with a tea tent and medieval style stalls.

Taking part in a task and finish study on puppy farming in Carmarthenshire as part of the work of the Place, Sustainability and Environment Scrutiny Committee. Public report expected later in 2024.

Undertaking a series of visits to school buildings in Carmarthenshire as part of the Education, Young People and Welsh Language Scrutiny Committee. Most recently we viewed the first PASSIV Carmarthenshire school in Gorslas. I look forward to all schools being of this standard to more easily support learners of all backgrounds and abilities.

I have been a part of the interview processes for the Headteacher, Deputy Head and Assistant Head of Dyffryn Taf.   Delighted that the appointments are the result of a rigorous process that includes a pupil interview panel. The appointments align a very strong, dedicated leadership team that will take Dyffryn Taf forward to be a model community school for the future.

Contact with Dwr Cymru, BT and CCC officers about the noisy manholes on Spring Gardens but I am working my way around and some fixes do not last very long. I often wonder if all services should be under pavements to avoid heavy traffic affecting them and working safer for the utility staff.

Various surface water flow issues in Henllanfallteg are ongoing along with funding allocated for flood studies in the Whitland Ward.

Keeping on top of the ongoing CCC bin survey. A new black recycled large bin costs £500 so it is important to check that locations of bins are the best and that we retain the ones that are needed in the ward.
